Lecture is about international public health focused on the AIDS epidemic. By her experience and latest statistics, she talks about 'how important to consider HIV and AIDS as international health issue and the organization 'The Fogarty International Center', which lecturer is involved. Since illness and death are cultural universal, not only science but concept of social science are needed in health problems. Thus international health anthropology, a study of human kind, is important.
Adults and children who are living with HIV and AIDS are growing globally. New HIV infections is taken over 6,800 a day in 2007. More than 96% accoured in low and middle income countries. About 1,200 are in children under 15 years of age. Comparison of 2003 and 2005, in 2005 HIV infection decrease dramatically in three sub-Saharan African countries. The reason of this change is antiretroviral prophylaxis.
'Forgarty International center' is an organization that consider international health problem such as HIV and support research on this. It is sustained collaborations between US academic research centers and Argentine stake-holders.
